Project description
Français de nos Régions is a web platform that hosts links to surveys intended to document the vitality and geographical area of linguistic phenomena thought to be regional. The website also includes blog posts shown as labeled maps with the survey results. A smartphone application is currently being developed. The application should allow audio recordings from participants to be collected to have an oral atlas of French around the world. |
Collaboration between the public and dialectologists (specialists who study how a language changes in space) began in the late 19th century, with the creation of the Atlas Linguistique de la France (lig-tdcge.imag.fr/cartodial…). New technologies have revolutionized dialectology, in particular because it is now possible to collect thousands of pieces of data from Internet users and process them very inexpensively in record time. Social media has also enabled us to share our results with very few modifications to make the world of academic research more accessible to the general public. |
