As part of actions in the French national strategy on invasive alien species (IAS) and Regulation (EU) No 1143/2014, the EEE-FIF website helps monitor the arrival or spread of alien animal species introduced in French territory (mainland or overseas). Surveillance takes place by involving professional networks and the general public in citizen science projects, as well as by monitoring bibliographic references, which are available on the EEE-FIF website. The involvement of as many people as possible helps expand the knowledge, research and expertise in this area with a view to conserving biodiversity.

The level of involvement is based on participants’ opportunistic observations. If an observer has already seen a species in a given location and it is sighted again several times a year in the same place, the information can be entered once a month.

With regard to invasive species, knowing when a species (individuals/populations) arrives in a new territory saves time and resources and increases efficiency in terms of reducing impacts on local biodiversity. We are open to participation from anyone who wants to help increase knowledge on species distribution! 

The data gathered from the EEE-FIF reporting form are opportunistic and do not follow a protocol. The information requested in the reporting form is useful for biodiversity monitoring indicators, research and policy action.
